How to do a good Throw-in

Throw-ins are an essential element of soccer. They put the ball back in play after it has been kicked out of bounds. But how do you get the ball far? How do you do a good throw-in? Keep reading to find out how.

  1. Pick up the ball. Hold it loosely, not too tightly.
  2. Make sure that you are not in the field. In a throw-in the player taking the throw-in must be standing out of bounds.
  3. Plant both feet firmly on the ground about shoulder width apart. Instead of this you may like to drag one foot on the ground as you take the throw-in, however if you do this make sure both feet are on the ground.
  4. Holding the ball in both hands, throw it over your head. Release when the ball is still over your head to get it farther, as it will only go a short way if you release too late

Now you know not only how to do a throw-in, but how to do a good one. If you want to know more about throw-ins, look at my last post about set pieces.
